3. To sink or swim?

A heavy stone is tied to my legs.
A hollow stem is fastened to my neck.
The stone won’t allow me to stay afloat.
The stem won’t allow me to drown.
Kudala-sangayya, Shiva, help me
to cross this ocean of life safely.

Self-belief and survival instinct — these will see to it that I stay afloat. However, the feeling of losing control on life- situations and frustration will pull me down. Thus, being caught between two opposing forces, I pray to Shiva.

I concede I can’t handle this. I stop struggling. That restful moment of surrender is the moment of awareness, Shiva.
