95. Body and spirit

You talk of ‘deha ‘and ‘nirdeha’
or ‘body and spirit.’
without understanding
the difference between the two.
When you say ‘aham’,’I,”
– the body is speaking.
When you say, ’dasoham’ or ‘I’m a slave’,
— the spirit is speaking.
The one who has conquered ego
is a slave to Shiva,
Those who have stamped out body sense
to become Shiva’s slaves, I call them nirdehis*
who have merged in Kudala-sangayya, Shiva.
— Basavanna

*Nirdehi is the one who has transcended the body sense.

Dasoha or taking the role of a slave to Shiva is the best antidote to lose individuality. Serving Shiva, I no longer have a mind of my own.

Stamping out individuality, I become a slave to Shiva. In serving Shiva, I become one with Shiva.
